Who doesn’t love a tiny cake?

16 Sep

My friend Julie got married a couple of months ago, and I offered to make her a miniature cake for her and her sweetheart to enjoy as a congratulatory gift.

Time got away from me, but we were able to nail down a date to enjoy happy hour tonight, and I yesterday I crafted this sweet 4-inch cake. After a quick chat about flavor preferences, I decided to make an almond cake using almond extract (I like the amaretto-quality), espresso buttercream (my favorite!) and a top cross-hatched with chocolate and salted caramel.

I’m falling more and more in love with miniature cakes, and after seeing what Kittie’s Cakes in Columbus can do with them (more on that another time), I’m convinced this is something I want to explore more of.

While I don’t go gaga over almond flavored things, that espresso buttercream seems delicious! I almost licked my computer screen, haha.

Do you like amaretto? Because the cake tastes more like that and less like nutty almonds. And yes, the buttercream IS wonderful, especially if you love coffee/espresso :)
